Q: How is Fiber Services different from other, similar companies?

A: Service! We go anywhere our clients need us to, whether across the city, the state, or even the country! Due to its resin-based nature, our stain protection is more permanent than the protection offered by many other companies. If you are having a hard time with a stubborn spot on your stain protected item, for 1 year after the date of application we will come to your house and spot clean the item free of charge. 


Q: What is your service area? Where can you go?

A: We are based in Charlotte, NC, but we can go anywhere in the United States! We go to beach homes, mountain homes, summer homes, winter homes, offices, hospitals, country clubs, hotels, universities, airports, and more. We can protect houses, businesses, cars, boats, planes, or wherever else you have fabric that needs to be resistant to stains.


​Q: Can you tell me more about your stain protection product?

A: Our stain protection is a resin-based product and therefore cannot be washed off; it must be worn off over time with friction. It does not change the color or texture of the fabric it is applied to. The product smells similar to potpourri when wet, but this goes away once dry.


Q: How does your stain protection work?

​A: Our product works by sealing the individual fibers of your fabric, so that foreign substances like dirt and liquid cannot penetrate the fibers. This means that anything spilled on the treated fabric cannot get into the fibers to permanently discolor it, though things like chemicals and dyes may still discolor the outside of the fibers. On certain fabrics, the substance will be repelled completely and will bead up; on other fabrics, the substance may soak in between the fibers, but should be much easier to clean out than if it were unprotected.


​Q: Is your stain protection product safe?

A: Yes! Our product is non-toxic and has very low VOCs: 4.2 when wet and 0.0 once dry. It is safe for you to be in the same room while the stain protection is being applied. It is fine for your kids and/or pets to be around it, and over-spray does not damage other materials such as hardwood floors or metal.


Q: What can your stain protection be applied to?

A: Any type of fabric, furniture, or fiber flooring: Wool, cotton, linen, polyester, nylon, silk, Sunbrella, satin, velvet, & more! We can treat sofas, chairs, ottomans, pillows, bed frames, comforters, drapes, rugs, carpets, stairs, outdoor furniture, fabric wallpaper, or any other fabric item.


Q: Can you treat my sisal / seagrass / natural fiber rug?

A: Yes, however we cannot offer our 1 year spot-cleaning warranty on sisal, seagrass, or other natural fiber rugs. Natural fiber rugs are very finicky and some will discolor as soon as they get wet; our protection cannot prevent this from happening. Our protection will help repel spots and spills like it normally does, but if the rug wants to return to its natural color once wet, then it will do so regardless of our protection.


Q: Can you treat leather?

A: Yes! Our protection can be applied to both smooth leather and suede.


Q: What do I need to do to prepare my furniture or rugs for stain protection?

A: The fabric to be protected does not need to be new or freshly cleaned. If there are any spots or stains already on the fabric, we can spot clean them before we apply the protection; our protection does not seal in any existing stains that may be on the fabric, so they can still be cleaned even after we apply our protection. We spray the items in place; there is no need to move any furniture as long as we can access all sides of the item being sprayed. If there is anything on the furniture that you do not want sprayed, such as blankets or toys, please remove it before the appointment; you can put it back once the protection has dried.


Q: What is an average stain protection appointment like?

A: An average appointment for stain protection lasts around 45 minutes - 1 hour. We spray the items with our stain protection using a handheld pump sprayer, so the process is quick & quiet. You may use your stain protected items again once they have dried. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free ask our technician about them at any time during the appointment.


Q: How long does the stain protection take to dry?

A: The stain protection takes between 1.5-2 hours to dry. We ask that you do not touch, sit, or walk on what has been sprayed until it has dried. The protection is not harmful should you touch it while wet, however the protection will be removed from your item where you touched, making that area susceptible to permanent stains.


Q: How long does your stain protection last? How often should the stain protection be reapplied?

A: How long our protection lasts depends entirely on your use of the stain protected item. Since our stain protection is resin-based, it can't be washed off, so there is no need to reapply it every time you have your stain protected item cleaned. Protection on heavily used items, such as rugs & family room furniture, usually lasts around 3-4 years. Less used items, such as formal dining sets & rugs under furniture, can last upwards of 10 years.


Q: How do you price your stain protection, cleaning, and flame retarding? How much does it cost?

A: We price by the piece for furniture and by the square foot for carpet & rugs. We are happy to give you an estimate over the phone at (704) 543-0903.


Q: Can you clean furniture & rugs?

A: Yes, we can clean anything that we can protect, as listed above. We do not clean tile or hardwoods.


Q: What process do you use for cleaning furniture, rugs, and carpets?

A: Our process uses a portable extraction machine to dampen, cleanse, and extract your furniture, rugs, and carpets. Our cleaning liquid is a combination of water, cleansing solution, and added fragrance; we can leave out the fragrance upon request, though the cleansing solution does have a mild fresh smell that can't be removed. This process is safe for cleaning rugs on hardwood floors and willnot cause water damage. The machine is about the size of a small shopping cart, sounds like a vacuum while running, and does not need to be connected to a van or water source. We clean the item in place; if we are cleaning a rug or carpet that has furniture on it, we tilt up and clean underneath the furniture to the best of our abilities. If there is a piece we are unable to lift or clean under, such as a china cabinet or captain bed frame, we will clean around it and will not charge you for the area we are unable to access. 


Q: Does your cleaning process leave my furniture or rugs damp? How long will it take to dry?

A: Yes, any item we clean will be damp for several hours after it has been cleaned. Most items take around half a day to dry; if you are able to turn on your air conditioning, or have ceiling fans or portable fans that we can set up for you, then the drying time will be shorter. You can walk on your rug or carpet immediately after we clean it, however it will be damp, so please take care not to slip when walking from the damp rug/carpet to the surrounding hard floor.


Q: I have an item that needs both cleaning and stain protection. Can you do both on the same day?

A: Yes, we can both clean and stain protect the same item during a single visit.


Q: Can you take my pillows, cushions, drapes, or rugs away to be cleaned then brought back?

A: Yes, we can pick up your pillows, cushions, drapes, or rugs from your residence and bring them back to our warehouse to be cleaned. Please note that wecannot pick up rugs larger than 9 ft. long on their shortest side, unless the rug is needlepoint and can be folded. This process takes an average of 2 weeks from pick-up to drop-off, so please expect to be without your furniture/rugs for at least that amount of time. 


Q: How often should my furniture, rugs, and carpet be cleaned?

A: We suggest for all fabrics in your house to be cleaned at least every 18-24 months. Fabrics can store many contaminants from everyday life (things like dirt, oil, dust mites, skin cells, pet hair, and much more) which should be removed fairly regularly in order to maintain your health and well-being.
